Thoughts on the Giants Pursuit in July 2 Prospects in 2015 and Beyond

We are now more than 2 weeks past the 2015 Rule 4 Draft. All of the players that the Giants drafted in the first 10 rounds have signed. Every single player of them got a chance to succeed in the Major League level but ultimately, their talents, their hardwork and some luck are needed for them to reach their full potential. But something is coming closer and closer with every second. It is the international signing period which is coming on July 2. 

The guys in Orange and Black have been conservative in terms of signing 16 year old amateur players in the past 3 years or so, not giving a lot of money to the top international prospects as far as I can remember. Their last guy that I remember that they gave more than a million bucks is Gustavo Cabrera which is the number 1 guy in the 2012 July 2 according to MLB.com. Gustavo then experienced a devastating injury on his hand that delayed his professional debut. In my opinion, the reasons for shying away from the top prospects on the international market are their immense risk that they possess since they didn't play in America (a lot more risk than the draft prospects) and the Giants have swung on and missed on their past international players like Angel Villalona. But on the past couple of years, the market improved due to the immense successes of experienced Cuban stars like Jose Abreu, Yoenis Cespedes and Yasiel Puig. This year's international class is great as well but I will take the top 2 international prospects last year, Adrian Rondon of the Rays and Gilbert Lara of the Brewers, more than all of the prospects this year. I glad that this year with Bobby Evans as the GM, they are serious players especially for the prospects at the very top of the board.

Scouting Reports for 2015 Giants Prospects Part 1: Arroyo, Beede, Mejia

    We are now on the heat of the 2015 season and a lot of the best prospects in baseball have been promoted to the Show and are living up to the expectations and the hype so far. For the Giants, there are prospects that are contributing well so far. Hunter Strickland, Matt Duffy, Andrew Susac, and Chris Heston are all doing well this year. So much for the consensus saying that the Giants have a barren farm system. It is a great organization for developing prospects and once they reached the Majors, they are performing better than what everyone expected. 

      In this series of scouting reports, I'll scout the top prospects of the Giants until the end of the season. I'll point out their mechanics, my grades for their tools and my ceiling and floor of the prospects just like the scouting reports that I wrote for Phil Bickford, Chris Shaw, and Andrew Suarez. The grades might change either be better or worse in the future (as soon as the end of the season.) The player's stats are going to show when you click on their name and courtesy of FanGraphs.

An Analysis on the Problems of Kyle Crick

   "The 2010 World Series champions San Francisco Giants with the 49th selection of the 2011 First-Year Player Draft, the San Francisco Giants select Kyle Crick, a right-handed pitcher from Sherman High School, Sherman, Texas..." 

    Those were the words of the great Gaylord Perry when the Giants selected Crick, a high-risk, high-reward pick in the Supplemental Round in 2011, the club's second pick in the draft after the Giants selected Joe Panik, a shortstop from St. John's widely considered at that time as a "reach". Another notable selection in the really deep 2011 MLB Draft is a guy taken number 21 by the Toronto Blue Jays by the name of Tyler Beede. Beede's the only guy in the first round who didn't sign and after a successful college career, he's selected once again in the 2014 MLB Draft, this time at number 14 by the Giants. Fast forward to 2015, Panik's a key cog when the Giants won it all again last October mostly carried by the country strong back of Madison Bumgarner and continues to be a solid contributor, possibly an All-Star candidate, this year, Beede transformed from an enigma with control issues despite an athletic delivery to a groundball lover with way better command and my top prospect in my top 10, and Crick's has been an enigma with his unresolved control issues ever since he was drafted. I am worried about Crick's issues every since the end of his 2013 season. He continues to baffle me how his status has gone standing still in 2014 and possibly even worse in 2015 which makes me think he's just the top 5 prospect of the Giants. Here's some of the issues that I see on him that makes him the enigma that he is today.

MLB: Giants Top 10+10 Prospects Post-Draft Edition

     With the 2015 MLB Draft now finished and more than 1,000 players selected by the 30 MLB clubs, the final hurdle for the clubs is the signing deadline for the draft selections. For the Giants, all the players selected in the draft in the first 10 rounds have a good chance of signing but I want to exclude them from this top 10 prospect list until they are officially signed. This top 10 prospect list is based on the performance and my own personal judgement on the development of the Giants prospects so far this season.

Note: I didn't include Andrew Susac, Chris Heston, Matt Duffy and Hunter Strickland because I feel they have graduated the minors already. Once the top 10 draft picks of the Giants have signed and how they perform there, I'll make another top 10 prospect list.

Scouting Report and Review on the Giants Day 1 Picks

      The first day 2015 MLB Draft has ended and surprisingly, the top 10 picks of the draft went as most of baseball fans expected as well as the draft gurus. There are surprising picks like Miami's Josh Naylor and such. The San Francisco Giants have the #18, #31 and #61 pick as you all know and I'll give you my thoughts on the guys that the front office has drafted for us.

Good day to you, kind person of the world! Welcome to my blog where I talk about prospects of the San Francisco Giants and the draft of the MLB and the NBA. I'm still a newbie on this so have patience on me if ever you're going to read on my blog might not be good to your liking.
