Top 30 Pre-All Star Break Update

Hello folks! This will be the update of my top 30 prospect list that I conjured in my mid-season special. There have been quite a movement in quite a short time where re-evaluations now that the initial returns in the Arizona League have arrived and that the international amateur free agents have now signed. There are also teeny weeny blurbs that I want to say on every prospect.

I do not know where to rank Dereck Rodriguez now that he is holding his own in the Giants rotation. I have considered ranking him in the mid-season special but I do not know where to put him because his age is not really his friend relative to MLB and his stuff doesn't really wow you individually but he got some kind of moxie and good feel for his craft that he could stay in the big league rotation for the rest of the season and possibly hold down a rotation spot next year. Really tricky situation for Pudge's son. I know I should have listed him but I do not know if it is too late for that.

1. Heliot Ramos  OF  A

Heliot will gonna play for the World Team in the Futures Game! Ain't too shabby for him! He's tinkering his swing, going from a one-handed finish to a two-handed one and vice versa but there are signs of improving breaking ball recognition.

2. Joey Bart  C  A-

The BART is up and running, folks! The power is spectacular for those with eyewitness reports of him hitting a ball very far everywhere at Volcanoes Stadium. I can swap Heliot and Bart and I can sleep in peace either way. Basing on his early production, looks like the Giants didn't mess this pick up, folks.

3. Steven Duggar  OF  MLB

Duggar is now in The Show! As one of the first believers of Duggar in the Giants community, I am extremely happy for him and for the ballclub as well!

4. Alex Canario  OF  ROK

Canario finally gets his bat rolling in the complex league in Arizona after an awful start to the season. But still, he's still doing his best in drawing walks but the Ks piled up due to his poor start.

5. Marco Luciano  SS/OF

The Giants made it official with a 2.6 million dollar bonus. As possibly the best 16 year old to join the Giants since Gustavo, excitement is obviously through the roof as is expectations for him to rake and become a star 4-7 years from now.

6. Shaun Anderson  RHP  AA

Several accomplishments unlocked for Anderson: pitching in the Futures Game and logging a 7-inning start!

7. Gregory Santos  RHP  A-

Speaking of pitching 7 innings, this fellow right here already pitched a 7-inning outing for the Volcanoes this year with great reports on his fastball and slider/curve. The changeup is still a work in progress but will be an average pitch for him.

8. Jacob Gonzalez  3B  A

I am confident to place Jacob ahead of Shaw because of Shaw's strikeouts and Jacob's advanced approach (bloodlines also help) while having similar ceilings.

9. Chris Shaw  1B/OF  AAA

I get that he's mashing the baseball so far but the strikeouts man. The Shaw of old, the one who draws walks while hitting for power is long gone as he's traded getting on base via the free pass in exchange for swings to the fences. He now lacks the walks to consider him as a three true outcomes-type of player that is the fad in baseball these days.

10. Seth Corry  LHP  ROK

I am now confident in placing Corry in the Top 10 due to these two reasons: improved mechanics in terms of arm action, tempo, and intensity that gives him a better control and command ceiling while retaining the stuff, and a much improved changeup that flashes plus while retaining the snap of his curve and the sinking and cutting movement of his low to mid-90s heater. The command hasfinally made huge strides for his stuff to play and is just too good for AZL hitters.

11. Logan Webb  RHP  A+

Could have placed Webb ahead of Corry but thought of him slotting behind Corry for also two reasons: him having a mechanics that is much more of a fit for a relief arm as compared to Corry, and Corry having a better projection in his changeup while having relatively similar or better ratings on his curveball and fastball.

12. Tyler Beede  RHP  AAA

The move to the pen has made Beede change his mentality on the mound to just attack hitters and not make perfect pitches (something that is what plenty are asking for him to do for a couple of years now) and the results of it are solid if you take off the two awful outings once he got transitioned to the pen. Hopefully, Beede will carry what learned in the pen to the rotation if he will get another shot at it wither in Sacto or in SanFran.

13. Sean Hjelle  RHP  A-

Plenty would put Hjelle above Beede due to the latter's struggles but consider this: what would you want in a vacuum on either a relief or starting role, Beede who can throw it at 97 MPH with a plus changeup and a workable curveball with the ideal pitchers frame but will struggle to throw for strikes consistently or a Hjelle who can throw it at 96 in the most perfect conditions but will sit 91-93 with velo dropoff that is paired with a curveball that flashes plus but will have a better command ceiling. I will take Beede with the slightest of margins but Hjelle ain't too bad of a choice either.

14. Heath Quinn  OF  A+

The losing streak of the little Gigantes has not stopped Quinn from his resurgent 2018 season.

15. Ray Black  RHP  MLB

Black is finally in the bigs! Such a great story of determination after going through a series of major injuries and the big right arm has never left him.

16. Ryan Howard  2B/3B/SS  AA

Keep on hitting, Ryan! Replacing Kelby's role might be tough in the future but I think Howad can do it.

17. Jalen Miller  2B  A+

Miller has been a victim of the SJ losing streak but has maintained his status back to being a prospect to watch for.

18. Jake Wong  RHP  A-

Wong will show rust after a lengthy break from pitching in college but his stuff and feel should play in the rotation.

19. Pat Ruotolo  RHP  AA

Signs of crack in the Ruotolo numbers but there's not much to worry about him.

20. Malique Ziegler  OF  A

I don't know what happened to his rehab assignment, maybe he re-aggravated his oblique or is it a new injury? I don't know the tools are exciting, I got to say.

21. Sam Wolff  RHP  AA

Finally, Wolff has a video that I can do some work on! From what I saw, he got a mid-90s sinker with plus sink when thrown down in the zone and a plus looking slider as well. With Matt Moore doing nothing for the Rangers and Wolff  possibly turning to something, the Giants won this trade.

22. Manuel Geraldo  SS  A

Don't look now, but Geraldo's batting south of .220 in his last 10 games.

23. Melvin Adon  RHP  A+

I don't know, Adon felt boring or whatever but he got the arm to succeed as a reliever.

24. Garrett Williams  LHP  AA

Williams, like Beede, has been demoted to the pen in order to fix his control and command issues and where his double-plus curveball could play.

25. Blake Rivera  RHP  A-

Has yet to pitch but is slated to play in Salem-Keizer.

26. Sandro Fabian  OF  A+

Fabian's struggling with the bat all season so far. My first swing and a miss on picking the breakout player of the year candidate in every year since I began doing this thing.

27. Camilo Doval  RHP  A

Doval keeps on doing what he has been doing all season long in Augusta.

28. Aramis Garcia  C  AA

Has found his power stroke lately now that he's been healthy so he's back in the top 30 list.

29. C.J Hinojosa  2B  AA

Has been overtaken in the pegging order.

30. PJ Hilson  OF  ROK

Very raw but Hilson made me a believer this year. Possibly the breakout candidate for next year.

Quite short list but I hope you liked reading! I will update this again if ever there are movement as the trade deadline approaches.
