Blog Announcement

Hello everyone. I'm announcing a couple of things. First up, I'm going to produce content for Prospects Worldwide, a site that's run by Jake Tillinghast and the contributors for every team are very good and come from different backgrounds and countries. I'm going to produce content on the site for as long as I can. Don't worry. The blog won't be dead. I plan to post way less content on this one as most of the prospect interviews, scouting reports, and others will be posted on the site. However, I will post a duplicate copy of it in this blog for good-keeping if ever the site falls through (I hope not).

The second and final one is an announcement regarding a long-term project that I am on the developmental stage and the one that I posted a poll out of it. I am collaborating with a local friend of mine who knows a thing or two about softwares and programs to make a much more analytical Giants prospect directory with certain limitations. It is only going to be limited to players who play full-season ball and short-season ball has a good video angle.

It's going to cost me money for the programs, pay for my friend, the baseball subscriptions, and most especially, it's going to cost me a lot of time that I am going to invest for this project. So this directory will be paid and will be sold digitally as I don't have any idea how to produce a hard copy of it. If I ever go even with my investment, I would be glad. If I get some profit off this project, that would be great because all of the money that I will ever earn with this project will go towards my sister's tuition fee. She's currently a nursing student that will seek a medicine course and the cost of that will be very high.

When to expect this one? It's going to be released within 6-9 months (hey, hey, hey!) because I plan to perfect this one for all of your viewing pleasure and will take your casual Giants prospect viewing experience to a whole new level.

Thank you!

Getting To Know Your 2020 UDFAs: Carter Williams

Welcome to this series that I consider as special in my heart. This is where I interview the 2020 undrafted free agent signees, get to know them better, in turn, you get to know them too. Past the scouting reports, past other people's opinions, straight from the source themselves. However, I am going to cover those prospects who did not have the media fanfare, the attention, the spotlight. I am going to focus on the prospects beyond the 7 selections of the 2020 MLB Draft.

This interview is very verbatim. I don't want to edit what the prospects said about the topics so that you can feel what type of personality they had. In turn, you see mine as well. I am using initials (mine's W, the draftees depend on the first letter of their first name).

In this post, I interviewed Carter Williams, an outfielder from NC Central University. Even thought the interview took longer than expected due to some delays, I still really enjoyed my interview with Carter because he answered the questions that I asked really well. He's very articulated and has put a lot of thought into answering those. I really appreciated that one and I hope you enjoy reading this one!

The Luis Matos Interview

Just like what the title tells you, yes, this is the Luis Matos interview. In case you've been living under a rock or you are not a Giants fan or haven't read my prospect primer (sell out, by the way), Luis is a top 10 prospect of the organization who is one of the big 3 signings of the 2018 international cycle that's headlined by uber prospect Marco Luciano. While Luciano and Jairo Pomares hit their way in the hot backfields of Arizona, Matos played a bulk of his 2019 season in the Dominican Republic but was called up to the U.S. to play in the AZL playoffs but was injured in the semi-finals.

I've interviewed a couple of present big leaguers that are minor leaguers before, specifically Tyler Beede and Steven Duggar in 2016. It's actually quite a long time since I've done this one! I've been big followers of their growth and struggle through the minor leagues but I'm really glad that they reached the top step of ladder when they made their Major League debuts a couple of years ago. I definitely had a lot of fun conducting an interview with them before.

This is actually quite a challenge, quite honestly as Luis can't speak English and I can't speak Spanish so there's actually a language barrier. Luckily, I had a friend who can speak the two language proficiently and he gladly helped me translate and I look forward towards interviewing more Dominican prospects through him. I paraphrased his answers a bit for better clarity. It's been a lot of fun and you will also see the dreaded question, what is Luis Matos' actual weight?

Getting To Know Your 2020 UDFAs: Tyler Forner

Welcome to this series that I consider as special in my heart. This is where I interview the 2020 undrafted free agent signees, get to know them better, in turn, you get to know them too. In this post, I interviewed Tyler Forner, an outfielder from Camas HS in the state of Washington. I found Tyler as a really fun guy to talk to and his answers to my questions are always on point and well-detailed. He can make a pretty good commentator someday! I hope you had the same fun reading this one!

Getting To Know Your 2020 UDFA: Ty Weber

Welcome to this series that I consider as special in my heart. This is where I interview the 2020 undrafted free agent signees, get to know them better, in turn, you get to know them too. Past the scouting reports, past other people's opinions, straight from the source themselves. In this post, I interviewed Ty Weber, a right-handed pitcher from the University of Illinois. I find Ty as a really calm and collected person and I really enjoyed the interview as a means of reaching out to the Giants fans wherever platform it may be. I look forward to see him don the Orange and Black!

The Journey of A Dominican Baseball Player From Their Youth To Their Teens

After the MLB First-Year Player Draft, there's another date that has always been marked in the calendars of every prospect junkies every year: July 2. That date is associated with the start of the international signing cycle, where players that come outside of the participating territories of the draft are eligible to be signed by Major League teams. However, this year's cycle has been affected by the global pandemic, and the date that international players are eligible to sign has been pushed to January 15, 2021.

The country that is heavily represented in the signing cycle is the Dominican Republic. The country is a hotbed of talent and is as passionate with the sport, if not more passionate, than the United States. Baseball in the country is everywhere. From the baseball fields to the streets and even inside a family's house, baseball is an essential part of every Dominican. However, there are still some topics to be talked upon with regards to how much baseball means to the country.

In this post, I'll cover the journey of an aspiring Dominican baseball player growing up in the current structure of the Dominican baseball pipeline, from entering the Dominican youth leagues at the age of 5, growing and participating in the Dominican equivalent of the Little League World Series until the age of 12, entering the negotiation table to verbally commit to teams as soon as the of 13, the still prevalent doping in the country and what happens to those lost into the fold as they are deemed too old to play. I've talked to an anonymous source who has connections and knowledge on these topics to make this post.

Note: I've excluded any names, including my source, in this article for confidentiality reasons. A mention of Melvin Adon is only for example purposes as his case is already known.

Post-2020 MLB Draft Special

The madness that is the 2020 MLB Draft has ended and it was bonkers. From Heston Kjerstad going 2nd overall, with a possibility of nabbing Nick Bitsko at pick 30 but never got there as he got selected at pick 24. Max Meyer being the first pitcher drafted instead of Asa Lacy possibly because of injury concerns. Zac Veen falling to the Rockies. Nick Yorke being selected by the Red Sox where there's a big gap between their first and third round picks. Evan Carter as being the first "wow" pick in the second round by the Rangers where even Baseball America does not have a written report on him (going to be a pretty common instance later on). Cole Wilcox had no business in the third round but was drafted by the Padres. The list goes on and on and on.

As for the San Francisco Giants, did the club smoked the same stuff that other clubs smoked during the draft? In this post, I'm here to present to you my thoughts on all seven Giants selections in this draft class, with complete scouting reports on six out of seven draftees (you'll know why I don't have a full scouting report on one guy as you read along) and with my opinions on who's left on the board in retrospect, and grades on every pick, because every one loves grades and rankings!
